棒球明星带给我们的成功经验
------当你踏上征程时，不管你最终的目标是什么，你是认准自己一定会成 功，全力以赴去拚搏，还是仅仅抱着”但愿一切顺利, 不成也算了” 的希望?
皮特·罗斯是一名著名的棒球运动员，虽然我从未与他谋面，但是他教给我一些很有用的道理，这些道理改变了我的一生。
在某一年春季训练中，皮特准备打破泰·卡博（Ty Cobb）的 本垒打最高记录，他接受采访时一名记者随口问道，“皮特，你只要再有78次安打就能打破这个纪录，那你需要多少机会才能累积78次呢？”皮特直视着记者，毫不犹豫地，用一种平实的 口吻回答，“78次”。这个记者嚷嚷着回应，“哎，算了吧皮特，你并不是真的指望78次击球 ，每次都能安打吧？”所有的记者都焦急等待着，想听他对这个看起来象是在自吹自擂的声明如何作答。罗斯先生平静地向记者们道出了他的人生哲学：“每次当我进入击球区时，都认为一定能击出本垒打!如果我没有抱着这种一定能击中的预期，我就没有资格第一个进入击球区 !” “如果我只是抱着可能行的愿望，”他接着说，“我可能就没有机会击中球，正是这种积极的预期，让我那么多次成功打出本垒打!”
我认真思考皮特的哲学，并想如何将它运用到日常生活中时，我对自己感到了一丝惭愧。作为一个生意人，我希望完成销售任务；作为一个父亲，我希望成为一个好爸爸；作为一个已婚男子，我希望成为一个好丈夫。 事实是：我是一个基本合格的销售人员，一个不算太坏的父亲，一个还算过得去的丈夫。我 立刻下定了决心：仅仅合格是不够的!我想要成为一个伟大的销售人员，一个伟大的父亲，一个伟大的丈夫。我将我的态度转变为一种积极预期的态度，结果是令人惊奇的。我幸运地在一些销售活动中取得了成功；在儿子的棒球队中赢得了“年度最佳教练”称号；并与妻子彼此爱恋，打算携手共度余生。

Great Expectations Pete Rose, the famous baseball player, and I have never met, but he taught me so mething so valuable that it changed my life.
Pete was being interviewed in spring training the year he was about to break Ty Cobb's all time hits record. One repo rter blurted out, "Pete, you only need 78 hits to break the record. How many at-b ats do you think you'll need to get the 78 hits?" Without hesitation, Pete just s tared at the reporter and very matter-of-factly said, "78." The reporter yelled b ack, "Ah, come on Pete, you don't expect to get 78 hits in 78 at-bats do you?" Mr . Rose calmly shared his philosophy with the throngs of reporters who were anxiou sly awaiting his reply to this seemingly boastful claim. "Every time I step up to the plate, I expect to get a hit! If I don't expect to get a hit, I have no righ t to step in the batter's box in the first place!" "If I go up hoping to get a hi t," he continued, "Then I probably don't have a prayer to get a hit. It is a posi tive expectation that has gotten me all of the hits in the first place."
When I thought about Pete Rose's philosophy and how it applied to Everyday life, I felt a little embarrassed. As a business person, I was hoping to make my sales quotas. As a father, I was hoping to be a good dad. As a married man, I was hopi ng to be a good husband. The truth was that I was an adequate salesperson, I was not so bad of a father, and I was an okay husband. I immediately decided that being okay was not enough! I wanted to be a great salesperson, a great father and a great husband. I changed my attitude to one of positive expectation, and the results were amazing. I was fortunate enough to win a few sales trips, I won Coach of the Year in my son's ba seball league, and I share a loving relationship with my wife, Karen, with whom I expect to be married to for the rest of my life!
